About Resistance Tubing

Resistance tubing is commonly used in baseball for strength, conditioning, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. The appropriate use of resistance tubing promotes a full range of motion, improves functional strength, and builds endurance for improved pitching performance. Smaller muscle groups that are hard to target with traditional free-weight exercises can be addressed with resistance tubing.

The ability of the athlete to focus on movements rather than individual muscle groups makes resistance tubing a superior sport-specific training tool. Properly executed exercise programs utilizing resistance tubing can simulate the pitching motion and reinforce proper pitching mechanics.

The benefits derived from the use of resistance tubing are commonly accepted by athletes, coaches, and sports medicine practitioners. Oates Specialties resistance tubing is made with tubing from the Hygenic Corporation, makers of Thera-Band® brand tubing. Their trademarked resistance tubing color system assures consistent resistance and their product quality is widely recognized throughout the athletic and medical communities.

While only the best tubing is used, the real secret of Oates Specialties resistance tubing is in its construction. Fabricated in the USA, Oates tubing products were thoroughly tested at Ron Wolforth's pitching academy in Houston, Texas prior to marketing. The utility, durability, and comfort of the athlete were foremost in the development of Oates tubing products. Firm, cushioned handles and secure, comfortable wrist bands easily accommodate aggressive athletic movements. The design used to attach the handles and/or grips to the resistance tubing, as well as the resistance tubing to an anchor, is the key to the durability of Oates Specialties resistance tubing.

"Oates Tubing", as it is commonly referred to by many, has been said to be simply the "Best resistance tubing available".

THE BOTTOM LINE: THE CORRECT USE OF RESISTANCE EXERCISE TUBING WILL INCREASE PITCHING PERFORMANCE WHILE REDUCING THE RISK OF INJURIES.

Each of the Select Conditioning Accessories is available in the following levels of resistance:

  • Green: typically used by the young athlete;
  • Blue: typically used by the junior high athlete;
  • Black: typically used by the high school athlete;
  • Silver: typically used by the well-developed high school and college athlete;
  • Yellow: typically used by mature college and professional athletes.

Buyer should select tubing based on athlete's size, age and physical capabilities. Questions about appropriate resistance level should be directed to your trainer, coach or physician. Detailed tubing resistance information is available upon request.

Oates Specialties resistance tubing products should be utilized at no more than two times the length of the resistance tubing at the exercise rest position. For a stronger, or firmer, resistance, the level (color) of the tubing should be increased - not the distance from the anchor. Over-extension of resistance tubing leads to premature product fatigue and possible failure. Any questions should be directed to Oates Specialties LLC.
