The difference lives in how the work is programmed, not in the ball itself.
The three weighted‑ball categories:
- Light / underload (3.5 oz). These balls are for overspeed‑style throwing — allowing the arm to move faster than it can with a regulation baseball, usually in short‑distance, low‑volume work.
- Standard plyometric range (7–14 oz). This is the main pattern‑ and tissue‑loading band, challenging the arm without pushing it into peak stress. Most structured throwing plans spend the bulk of their time here.
