About This Product
Weighted cuffs that strap on at the base of the hand and add precise resistance to rotator cuff, scapular, and deceleration drills.
The TAP® Weighted Cuffs for Arm Strengthening & Stabilization are wrist weights sold in pairs, strapped on low at the wrist to add resistance to the movement of the arms. Each set is two cuffs weighing exactly half the set total: the Synthetic Leather set is 10lb total (two 5lb cuffs), and the Standard Duty sets come in 5lb (two 2.5lb cuffs), 10lb (two 5lb cuffs), and 20lb (two 10lb cuffs). They are commonly used for pronation drills, scapular stabilization and strengthening movements, and the controlled rotator cuff and deceleration patterns shown in the videos below. The work is slow, deliberate, and controlled by design.
- Worn at the base of the hand — Most athletes wear the cuff low, at the base of the hand, and grip their fingers onto it. The straps set the position and the grip keeps the cuff seated, so the load stays where it was placed through the whole pattern.
- Exact pair math — Every set is two cuffs at exactly half the set total: 2 × 2.5lb (5lb set), 2 × 5lb (10lb sets), or 2 × 10lb (20lb set). No guessing what is on each arm.
- Synthetic Leather set, built for shared use — Moisture-resistant synthetic leather wipes clean with most non-abrasive cleaners or disinfectant wipes, with two adjustable hook-and-loop closures for a secure fit.
- Standard Duty sets, three totals — Durable nylon sets in 5lb, 10lb, and 20lb, with outside pockets holding weight packets that can be removed to lessen the load.
- Adjustable, wrist or ankle — Hook-and-loop closures adjust for a secure fit across wrist sizes, and the cuffs may also be used as ankle weights if desired.
- Made for controlled work — Built for slow, deliberate movements. Explosive drills are not the default use — only under an established protocol with a knowledgeable coach supervising.
What Is It?
The TAP® Weighted Cuffs are pairs of weighted cuffs with adjustable hook-and-loop closures. The Synthetic Leather set (10lb total) is the wipe-clean option for programs and facilities where cuffs get shared and cleaned often. The Standard Duty sets (5lb, 10lb, and 20lb totals) are nylon, with removable weight packets for stepping the load down. There is no Extreme Duty set — the current lineup is the Synthetic Leather 10lb set and the three Standard Duty sets. Most athletes wear the cuffs low, at the base of the hand, with their fingers gripped onto the cuff to keep it seated — not high on the forearm — so the position stays consistent from rep to rep in pronation, 90/90, and scapular work.
How It Works
Three mechanisms behind cuff loading
Distal Load, Longer Lever
The cuff sits at the base of the hand — the far end of the arm from the shoulder. Weight carried there creates more turning force at the shoulder and elbow than the same weight held close to the body, so a modest cuff load is a real load. That is why the lightest set starts at 2.5lb per cuff.
Gripped in Place, Low on the Wrist
Most athletes wear the cuff low, at the base of the hand, and grip their fingers onto it. The straps set the position and the grip keeps it seated, so the load does not ride up the arm or shift between reps during pronation drills, rotational reaches, and 90/90 patterns.
Control Is the Point
Cuff drills earn their place at slow, deliberate speeds — overhead pulses, scapular retractions, and deceleration patterns the athlete brakes on purpose. If a position or a load cannot be controlled unloaded, adding cuff weight to it is not the next step.
Backed by Research
Research Context: What the Evidence Actually Shows
No peer-reviewed study has tested the TAP® Weighted Cuffs themselves. Support here is mechanism-level, not product-specific: wearing a known load on the wrist is a long-standing way to add resistance to arm patterns, and the drills in the videos are standard rotator cuff, scapular, and deceleration patterns. This description does not claim that the cuffs prevent injury, rehabilitate an arm, guarantee strength gains, increase velocity, or establish competitive readiness.
A mobility screen measures the range an athlete shows on a given day — it does not diagnose a problem, predict injury, or select an exercise, and cuff work measures nothing at all. Equipment creates tasks, not verdicts: the cuffs load patterns the athlete can already reach and control, and a muscle working during a drill shows that the muscle is working — not, by itself, that velocity, readiness, or injury risk has changed.

Product Details
How to Use It
Fit: Wear the cuff low, at the base of the hand, and grip your fingers onto it so it stays seated; the hook-and-loop closures adjust the fit.
Warm-up / prep: After a general warm-up, use the lightest set for pitcher warm-ups, shoulder range-of-motion work, and the overhead pulse and reach patterns in the videos. Low load, quality reps.
Training use: Pronation drills, dual 90/90 external/internal rotations with the elbows level with the shoulders, bent-over scapular retractions, and pivot-to-throw deceleration and follow-through patterns. Slow, deliberate, and controlled — brake every rep on purpose.
Light days: The first video shows post-game recovery exercises with the Synthetic Leather cuffs. That is a coaching application shown on video, not a recovery guarantee — keep the load light and the movements easy.
Explosive work: Not the default. Explosive movement drills only under an established exercise protocol with a knowledgeable coach supervising.

Every set total is the pair combined — each cuff weighs exactly half. Start with the 5lb Standard Duty set for most athletes.
Who This Is For
- Commonly used for baseball and softball athletes doing rotator cuff, scapular, and pronation work as part of arm care.
- Commonly used for coaches and facilities running shared arm-care stations that need a wipe-clean set.
- Commonly used for athletes following a structured, supervised cuff routine at home or on the road.
- Commonly used for youth athletes 13 and older, with the lightest set, conservative volume, and hands-on adult supervision.
What This Implement Does NOT Do
- It does not replace a complete throwing or strength program.
- It does not guarantee strength, velocity, or performance outcomes.
- It does not prevent, treat, or rehabilitate injuries, and it is not a medical or rehabilitation device.
- It does not measure mobility or readiness — a screen measures range on a day, and the cuffs only load the patterns an athlete already controls.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which set should I start with?
Start with the lightest set that lets every rep stay slow and clean — for most athletes that is the Standard Duty 5lb set (two 2.5lb cuffs). Move to a 10lb set (two 5lb cuffs) only when the lighter load is fully controlled, and treat the 20lb set (two 10lb cuffs) as a heavy distal load for athletes who already control the lighter sets. Choose the Synthetic Leather 10lb set when wipe-clean, shared use is the priority.
How do the Synthetic Leather and Standard Duty sets differ?
The Synthetic Leather set is 10lb total (two 5lb cuffs), with a moisture-resistant surface that wipes clean and two adjustable hook-and-loop closures — built for shared and facility use. The Standard Duty sets are durable nylon in 5lb, 10lb, and 20lb totals (two cuffs at exactly half the total).
Can the cuffs be used as ankle weights?
Yes. The adjustable hook-and-loop closures fasten securely around the ankle as well as the wrist, so the same pair can add resistance to lower-body work. The per-cuff weights still apply — a 20lb set is two 10lb cuffs, which is a substantial ankle load for most athletes.
Can I use them for explosive drills or throwing?
The cuffs are built for slow, deliberate, controlled movements. Explosive movement drills are not recommended unless you are following an established exercise protocol under the supervision of a knowledgeable coach. The dry throwing-pattern and deceleration work in the videos is supervised drill work, not full throwing with the cuffs on.
How do I care for them, and are instructions included?
Synthetic Leather cuffs clean with most non-abrasive household cleaners, spray cleaners, or disinfectant wipes. All sets are suitable for indoor or outdoor use, but are not intended for use in water or exposure to extreme conditions, sharp edges, or points. Instructions for use are not included.
