About This Product
Six color-coded loop bands for upper- and lower-body strength work — from shoulder prep to loaded lateral walks.
The TAP® Exercise Bands are continuous-loop resistance bands in six color-coded levels, built for the two jobs small bands do best: preparing the upper body and loading the lower body. Yellow and green handle shoulder activation, isometric holds, and range-of-motion work, with red covering heavier upper-body work; blue, orange, and purple load lateral walks, glute medius work, and lower-half strength patterns. Elastic resistance rises as the band stretches, so the load is lightest at the start of a rep and heaviest at full stretch. They pack flat, need no anchor, and go anywhere a bag goes.
- Six levels, color-coded — Yellow, green, and red for upper-body prep; blue, orange, and purple for lower-body loading.
- Loop format, no anchor needed — Step in, wrap the hips, or loop the limbs for lateral walks and glute work with no rack or post.
- Resistance rises with the stretch — Lightest at the start of the rep, heaviest at full stretch, ramping effort through the range.
- Pocket-portable — 9″ lay-flat bands coil into any bag for road trips, sidelines, and hotel hallways.
- Sold individually — Buy one band or build the set; start light and add resistance only as control allows.
What Is It?
The TAP® Exercise Bands are continuous-loop latex bands, 9 inches lay-flat, in six widths from 3/8 inch (yellow) to 2 inches (purple). They are the small-loop counterpart to our 41-inch Giant Flat Bands: where the Giant loops load full-body patterns, these target the extremities — shoulders, hips, glutes, and lower legs — for activation, prep, and strength work that needs no anchor and little floor space.
How It Works
Three mechanisms behind loop-band training
Resistance That Rises With the Stretch
Elastic bands load lightest at the start of a rep and heaviest at full stretch — a low-load way to build bilateral and unilateral strength in the hips and legs.
Two Tools in One Set
Lighter bands (yellow, green, red) handle upper-body prep: shoulder activation and isometric holds. Heavier bands (blue, orange, purple) load the lower half: lateral walks and glute medius work.
Strength Work Without the Weight Room
No anchor, no rack, little floor space. Loop a band around the limbs and train anywhere — the dugout, a hotel hallway, the sideline — so prep and strength work survive travel days.
Backed by Research
The Science of Elastic Resistance
No peer-reviewed study has tested the TAP® Exercise Bands themselves — support here is category-level, not product-specific. A meta-analysis of eight studies found lower-limb strength gains with elastic resistance similar to conventional equipment (Lopes et al. 2019). A meta-analysis of 21 team-sport studies found added band training improved jump, sprint, and change-of-direction results over routine training alone (Stankovic et al. 2025). Neither involved baseball players, protocols varied, and no study shows bands change pitch velocity. Using bands for endurance or light-day work is a coaching application, not a research finding.

Product Details
How to Use It
Warm-up / prep: After a general warm-up, use yellow, green, or red for shoulder activation, pull-aparts, and isometric holds. Low intensity, quality reps.
Training use: Use blue, orange, or purple for lateral walks, glute medius work, and resisted lower-half patterns. Controlled reps; progress only when every rep stays clean.
Light days: Some coaches use light band work on easy days. That is coaching practice, not a research finding — keep it easy.
Resistance Selection Guide
| Color | Width | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | 3/8″ | Youth athletes; delicate rotator-cuff activation |
| Green | 5/8″ | Junior high athletes; upper-body mobility |
| Red | 3/4″ | Heavier upper-body work; light lower-body work for some |
| Blue | 1″ | Collegiate athletes; serious lower-body tension |
| Orange | 1-1/2″ | High-level strength endurance and heavy loading |
| Purple | 2″ | Heavy glute activation; maximal-resistance drills |
Who This Is For
- Commonly used for baseball and softball athletes needing portable shoulder prep and lower-body band work.
- Commonly used for coaches running group warm-ups in tight spaces.
- Commonly used for teams and facilities that train on the road and need strength work that fits in a bag.
- Commonly used for youth athletes with the lightest bands, conservative volume, and hands-on coaching.
What This Implement Does NOT Do
- It does not replace a complete strength program.
- It does not guarantee velocity, power, or performance outcomes.
- It does not prevent, treat, or rehabilitate injuries.
- It does not automatically correct mechanics.

Safety and Care
- Not a toy: supervised training implement only.
- Elongation limit: never exceed 300%.
- Inspect every session: retire nicked, cut, or thinning bands. Store out of sunlight, away from sharp surfaces.
- Latex allergy: contains natural rubber latex.
- Not a rehab device: not a substitute for medical care or physical therapy.
- Youth: ages 13+, lightest band first, adult supervision. Stop for sharp or unusual discomfort.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which band should I start with?
Yellow or green for upper-body prep, red for heavier upper-body work (some use it for light lower-body work). Move up only when every rep stays clean.
How are these different from the TAP® Giant Flat Bands?
Giant Flat Bands are 41-inch loops for full-body rotational loading. Exercise Bands are 9-inch loops for the extremities. Whole body: go Giant. Joint or muscle group: go Exercise Band.
Will bands build strength like lifting weights?
Eight studies found lower-limb strength gains with elastic resistance similar to conventional equipment (Lopes et al. 2019). No study shows bands change pitch velocity.
Can youth athletes use them?
Yes — lightest bands, conservative volume, hands-on coaching. For adolescents the value is mostly neural: better patterns and coordination.
Can I use them every day?
Light prep and activation, yes. Loaded work needs recovery like any training — and should never cost the next day's throwing.
