About This Product
A handlebar and two chains that load rotation differently on every rep — built for waves, slams, chops, and twists where the resistance builds as the movement builds.
The SpeedChain® TorsoBurner® is a manually operated, chain-based training device for rotational movement patterns. A handlebar connects to two universal SpeedChain® segments whose links increase in size, so the load is not fixed: as a movement picks up speed and range, more of the chain is in play, and every change of direction has to be driven and then braked by the trunk. Baseball, softball, golf, and tennis athletes use it for rotational strength and core training — bilateral waves, overhead slams, rotational chops, torso twists, and full 360-degree rotations.
- Variable Chain Resistance — The segments’ increasing link size means resistance builds through the movement instead of staying constant, and reverses when the movement reverses.
- Both Sides of the Trunk Work — Every pattern is a drive followed by a brake: the muscles that start a rotation also have to stop and redirect it, rep after rep.
- Four Chain Levels — Strong, X-Strong, Ultra, and Pro, selected by the athlete’s current strength and sport level (see the selection guide in Product Details).
- One Interchangeable System — The universal segments use the SpeedChain® quick-link system, so they swap with the other sport-specific SpeedChain® attachments.
- Components Available Individually — Buy the full unit, the bar on its own, or a bar with a single chain, and replace or expand components as the setup grows.
What Is It?
The TorsoBurner® system consists of a handlebar, two universal SpeedChain® segments, and a chain carrier. It is a training implement for rotational patterns — not a weight stack, not a cable machine, and not a medical or rehabilitation device. The training idea behind it comes from Dynamic Systems Theory: a load that keeps changing forces the athlete to keep organizing the movement, rather than repeating one fixed groove against one fixed resistance.
How It Works
Three things the chains change about rotational training
Resistance That Builds
A cable or band pulls with roughly the same force through a rep. The chains don’t: as the bar travels and the links lift and load, the resistance climbs with the movement itself — and drops just as fast when the direction changes.
The Reversal Is the Rep
Waves, chops, and slams all end by reversing. The trunk muscles that drove the chain out have to brake it and send it back, so accelerating and decelerating are trained in the same movement instead of as separate drills.
Speed With Feedback
The patterns are meant to be performed fast, and the chain answers immediately: when timing or sequencing breaks down, the wave breaks down with it. The athlete can see and feel a clean rep versus a sloppy one without a coach saying a word.
What the Research Says
Rotational Training, Stated Plainly
Rotational athletes — hitters, pitchers, golfers, tennis players — produce force by turning the trunk against the ground and the implement. Programs train that quality with rotational patterns under load, and chains are one established way to vary the load: resistance that rises and falls with the movement instead of staying fixed. The TorsoBurner® puts that variable resistance on rotational patterns specifically — waves, slams, chops, and twists performed at speed, with the braking half of every rep loaded as heavily as the driving half.
One honest limit: no peer-reviewed study has tested the SpeedChain® TorsoBurner® itself. The research on chain-based accommodating resistance comes mostly from barbell lifts, not rotational chain work, so it does not establish outcomes for this device — and nothing about it has been shown to raise bat speed, throwing velocity, or clubhead speed, or to reduce the risk of oblique or trunk injuries. It is a rotational training task. Judge it by what you can see: movement quality at speed, control of the reversal, and steady progression from one chain level to the next.

How to Use It
Set up: Connect the universal SpeedChain® segments to the handlebar with the quick links, and check every link before each session. Train in a clear area with room for the chains’ full swing in every direction — overhead, side-to-side, and through a full rotation.
Training use: Run the patterns shown in the videos — bilateral waves, overhead slams, rotational chops, torso twists, and 360-degree rotations. Start at a controlled speed and build toward full speed only as the pattern stays clean; the chain’s behavior tells you immediately when form breaks down. Work in short sets with rest, the way the demonstration videos are organized.
Care: Inspect the bar, links, and quick-link connectors before use and replace any worn component — every part of the system is available individually.

Who This Is For
- Commonly used for baseball and softball athletes adding rotational strength and core work to a throwing or hitting program.
- Commonly used for golfers and tennis players training the rotational patterns their swings are built on.
- Commonly used for coaches and facilities that want one rotational tool with four resistance levels, instead of four separate implements.
- Commonly used for existing SpeedChain® owners expanding into rotational work with segments that swap across the whole system.
What This Implement Does NOT Do
- It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent injury — including oblique and trunk injuries — and it is not a medical, therapeutic, or rehabilitation device.
- It does not guarantee gains in bat speed, throwing velocity, clubhead speed, or any other performance measure; outcomes depend on the athlete’s full program, workload, and coaching.
- It does not replace a structured training program or qualified coaching and supervision.

Safety Compliance & Youth Guardrails
This is training equipment for vigorous exercise, not a toy. The TorsoBurner® is designed for athletes with no physical constraints who are cleared for vigorous exercise intensity; anyone with a current injury, pain, or a physical limitation should get qualified professional guidance before using it, and it must never be used to diagnose, treat, or rehabilitate an injury. Inspect the bar, chain links, and quick-link connectors before every session and train only in a clear area, clear of other people, for the chains’ full swing path. Adolescent athletes should train under close adult supervision, start with the Strong level, and progress only when the movement patterns stay clean at speed. Stop if anything hurts.
Youth and growth-window guidance: athletes still developing should work under close supervision, with drill selection, chain level, and effort matched to age, experience, and health status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which chain level should I choose — Strong, X-Strong, Ultra, or Pro?
Choose by current strength and sport level. Strong is typically chosen by entry-level and senior athletes; X-Strong by varsity-level high school athletes; Ultra by varsity high school and college athletes; and Pro by college and professional athletes. The Variant & Selection Guide in the product details matches each level to sport-specific ranges for baseball and softball, golf, and tennis. When in doubt, start with the lighter chain — the segments can be changed as strength and skill progress.
What comes with the TorsoBurner®?
A full TorsoBurner® (Strong, X-Strong, Ultra, or Pro) consists of the handlebar, two universal SpeedChain® segments, and a chain carrier. The Bar ONLY variant is the handlebar on its own, and the Bar w/ Single Chain variants pair the bar with one segment.
Can I use TorsoBurner® segments with other SpeedChain® products?
Yes. The universal SpeedChain® segments attach with the same quick-link system used across the SpeedChain® line, so either or both segments can be used alternately with other sport-specific SpeedChain® quick-link attachments.
Can I buy the components separately?
Yes. The handlebar is available on its own (Bar ONLY), bar-and-single-chain combinations are listed as variants, and all components of the TorsoBurner® are available individually to maintain, customize, or expand a SpeedChain® setup.
I’m 6’4” or taller — do I need anything extra?
Muscularly mature athletes and athletes approximately 6’4” and taller should consider adding extensions for a fuller training range and more loading options. Extensions are part of the SpeedChain® Accessories line.
Is the TorsoBurner® a rehabilitation device?
No. It is a training tool for rotational training patterns. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent injury, and it is not a substitute for medical care or a coached training program.
