About This Product

A 5-dot foam mat for footwork you can measure.

The TAP® Dot Mat is a cushioned foam mat printed with the classic 5-dot agility pattern. Run the sequence — up & back, single-leg hops, both feet together, 180-degree turnarounds — timed, for 6 reps a movement. The half-inch foam forgives every landing, and the mat rolls up when the work is done.

  • 5-dot drill pattern — Up & back, right foot, left foot, both feet, turnarounds: one mat, a complete footwork sequence.
  • Cushioned foam rubber — 1/2″ thick; a forgiving surface for high-rep footwork.
  • Timed and measurable — 6 reps per movement; run it against the clock and track the time.
  • 48.5″ × 36″ — The full pattern on one mat; combine multiple mats for bigger layouts.
  • Rolls up for storage — Unroll on any dry, firm, level surface; roll up when done.

What Is It?

The TAP® Dot Mat is a foam exercise mat printed with the 5-dot pattern used for agility footwork. Athletes run the dot sequence — jumping forward and back, hopping on one foot, both feet together, turning 180 degrees at the top dots — typically 6 reps per movement, typically timed. The half-inch foam rubber gives every landing a little forgiveness, which matters when a session means dozens of foot contacts. Unroll it on a dry, firm, level surface, work, roll it up.

  • Built for: Athletes and coaches training footwork — quickness, coordination, change of direction.
  • Best used: Warm-ups and agility blocks; two-feet drills first, single-leg as the progression.
  • Pairs with: A stopwatch; a second Dot Mat for expanded layouts.

How It Works

Three ideas behind the mat

Dots Make It a Drill

Without the dots it’s just jumping. The 5-dot pattern turns footwork into a sequence with rules — which foot, which direction, how many — so every rep is the same rep, and the stopwatch means something.

Foam Forgives the Reps

Half an inch of foam rubber under every landing. A full sequence means dozens of foot contacts; the cushion keeps the drill about quickness instead of pounding.

The Clock Is the Coach

Six reps per movement, timed. Run the sequence, write down the time, beat it next week. Measurable beats motivational.

Backed by Research

What This Mat Is Built On

No peer-reviewed study has tested the TAP® Dot Mat itself — and we won't imply otherwise. The 5-dot drill is a staple of agility training; coaches have used it for decades because it's simple, repeatable, and measurable. That history is coaching tradition, not a clinical trial. The mat gives the drill a consistent, forgiving surface — what the athlete builds on it still has to show up on the field.

Who This Is For
  • Athletes training footwork: quickness, coordination, change of direction.
  • Coaches running agility stations and warm-ups with measurable drills.
  • Programs that want footwork work without a full agility setup.
  • Beginners through advanced — the drill scales by movement choice, not by mat.
What This Implement Does NOT Do
  • It does not guarantee agility or quickness outcomes.
  • It does not prevent, treat, or rehabilitate injuries.
  • It does not replace sport practice — footwork is one piece.
  • It does not coach — the dots mark the drill, the coach runs it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What drills do I run on the mat?

The dot sequence: up & back, right foot, left foot, both feet, turnarounds — 6 reps each, timed. Start with both-feet movements and progress to single-leg work.

How do I know I'm improving?

Time the full sequence. Same drills, same order, faster time — that's the measurement. The stopwatch is the scoreboard.

Can I use more than one mat?

Yes — position multiple mats together for larger layouts and longer sequences.

Where should I set it up?

On a dry, firm, level surface free of obstacles or debris. The mat surface and your footwear should be dry before use.

Is it only for advanced athletes?

No. Beginners start with both-feet drills; single-leg work is the progression. The drill scales by movement choice, not by mat.
